ZASORCERESS looks to have booked a spot in next weekend's Group 1 Queensland Oaks after breaking her maiden at the Gold Coast on Saturday.

Although the Gold Coast race was only worth $15,000, it has turned out to be a crucial win with the extra prizemoney helping Zasorceress leap frog to No 17 in the Oaks order of entry. With a field of 18 lining up at the new Eagle Farm track, Zasorceress looks assured of a run.

"It's been a nervous couple of weeks for the owners. She was first emergency in the AJC Oaks and third emergency in last Saturday's Group 2 Roses, and it would have been horribly disappointing to miss out again. It looks like she has made the field so all the owners can now book their tickets to Queensland and enjoy the build-up to the race rather than waiting anxiously as we did in Sydney".

Gold Coast jockey Daniel Griffin has been booked to ride Zasorceress in the Oaks. "He did nothing wrong the other day and I think he deserves the opportunity. He dominates the jockey ranks on the Gold Coast and is a very talented rider. He won't be out of place on the big stage next week. He won the Group 2 Sires Produce on Shoot Out and he rides as good as any jockey in Qld".

Zasorceress was a $320,000 purchase for JWR at the 2013 NZ Karaka New Zealand Sale. She was brought from Sir Peta Vella's famous Pencarrow Stud and hails from the Eight Carat family with her third dam being champion Irish champion mare HABIBTI who is a half sister to the great mare EIGHT CARAT (dam of OCTAGONAL, KAAPSTAAD, MOUWARD etc).

"She hails from one of the great female families in the stud book. I think her sire Zabeel has sired 44 Group 1 winners so it would be nice to get his 45th" smiled Warren.
