Planning for the future - A new training base for JWR

Aug 19, 2016

The future belongs to those who plan for it” is an old saying that I have always looked to follow. It was a big decision to buy Denistoun Park 6 years ago and it was a decision which helped propel my career. The stable broke into the top 10 and we trained our first Group 1 winner with the mighty Bel Sprinter.

Whilst Denistoun Park has been a great success, you can't stay stagnant in this game and you need to grab new opportunities when they arise. For that reason, I have decided to purchase land and build a state of the art stable complex at the recently opened Pakenham Racing Club. It will become JWR's new home. With world class training tracks, pools, water walkers and other premium facilities, I have no doubt that Pakenham will become the No 1 training centre in the Australia in the years to come and will help us go to the next level.

With the sun out and the weather improving, there was a real feeling of spring down at the stables this week.

We have got a lovely bunch of horses coming through at the moment, many of which will start their spring campaigns over the coming weeks.

Our first spring hope to step out will be city winning filly THE SEDUCTRESS. She was an impressive winner at Caulfield last preparation and resumes in Race 1 in Adelaide tomorrow. The daughter of Snitzel recently won a Cranbourne trial (beating subsequent stakes winner I AM A STAR) and is ready for a big first up run.

All aboard! The Seductress & Sheridan on route to Adelaide

We have a nice bunch of horses trialling at Cranbourne on Monday. Hungarian import THUNDER TEDDINGTON (Heat 24) has come back bigger and better and isn't far away from kicking off his spring campaign.

It's a real honour to be training a filly for legendary owner and breeder Sir Peter Vela who owns Pencarrow Stud. He sent over a lovely Rip Van Winkle filly TROIS VALLEES who makes her first public appearance in Heat 10.

RISQUE BUSINESS (Heat 13) and ORVASSA (heat 14) are both resuming from injury lay-offs and both look set for good campaigns.

VICIOUS (Heat 15) is a new acquisition to the stable from the David Hayes yard. He looks to be more than handy and will be winning races over the coming months.

Our new season 2yo's are filtering through the stable as they continue their education process. Whilst it is still early days, we look to have some promising types in the stable with some of the colts already having their first 200m run alongs.
