Jan 01, 2016

It's hard to believe that another year has passed! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and are looking forward to a big 2016 both on and off the track.

It's always interesting reviewing the statistics at the end of the year and 2015 was certainly a successful year for the stable. We finished the year with 34 winners at a Strike Rate of 12%. After a quiet patch over winter, we bounced back in the second half of the year with 17 winners from our last 100 runners at an impressive SR of 17%.

The stable's resurgence in recent months was largely due to a change of strategy. A decision was made mid-year to focus on quality over quantity which resulted in the knife being sharpened and a number of horses moved on. We now have the best young crop of young horses ever assembled at Denistoun Park and I am sure 2016 will be our most successful year ever.

Another key change was the introduction of Adrian McGregor, our new assistant trainer. His wealth of knowledge and sharp eye has been invaluable for the stable. Whilst he keeps a low profile but he is a highly talented trainer in his own right and a great man to have on the team.

For mine, the highlight of the year was THE BARRISTER'S (pictured) successful raid on Sydney where he took out the Fernhill Stakes during The Champsionships. We were one of the few Victorian stables to taste success over the Sydney Autumn Carnival which was a huge achievement. He was a $110k yearling purchase by JWR and it was sad to see him depart for Hong Kong. I will watch his career unfold with great interest.

I am very excited about our 3yo fillies and decision to invest in quality stock is starting to pay off. Expensive Zabeel filly ZASORCERESS and Street Cry filly BACKSTREET LOVER (pictured) have shown tremendous early ability and they are being aimed at the AJC Oaks and Queensland Oaks respectively. We shouldn't forget the exciting 3yo PURITAN who ran 4th in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes at his second start. He resumes in February.

We have only had a handful of 2yo runners so far this season but we've already struck with Snitzel filly THE SEDUCTRESS winning her second start. She will bypass the Magic Millions to concentrate on the 2yo races in Melbourne.

Our first foray into the German tried horse market has been an early success with ALLANO winning in town at his second start. I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of our newest acquisition, THUNDER TEDDINGTON, who arrives down under later this month.

DANGER CLOSE failed to register a win during 2015 and is hungry to start the new year with a win at Flemington today. Everything points to a big performance. The track, ground and distance are ideal. He comes off an excellent run and he gets Froggy Newitt back on. Today could be Danger's day! Good luck.

We have been collecting some fantastic footage of Denistoun Park over the last year and have put together a short video which I am sure everyone will enjoy watching. Click on the image below to view.
