German import ALLANO looks the real deal after a slashing win on Wednesday. He put the writing on the wall with a big run on debut and backed it up with a strong win over 2000m.

A son of Japan Cup winner and champion racehorse LANDO out of a stakes winning BAHRI mare, Allano is bred to go 2400m and beyond. "He was one of the cheaper imports to come out to Australia this year and arrived with a pretty low rating so he was never going to be a Cups horse this spring. The prices for the German horses went through the roof after the success of Protectionist but this fella was still quite reasonably priced having landed in Australia for $250,000".

Unlike some of the other imports, Allano didn't arrive with any great fanfare or grand expectations. He was lightly raced in Germany and had showed enough to think that he would be a handy city class horse in Australia that might progress to higher levels. Based on his first two runs in Australia, he looks well up to listed and possibly group level so it's pretty exciting for the owners who took a big punt buying him.

Allano will now head to Caulfield in a few weeks for a 2400m race before eyeing off a possible start in the Group 3 Bendigo Cup. "He loves the big wide tracks so Bendigo would really suit him. So would Flemington" smiled Warren.
