It was a fantastic result at Sandown last week with DOUBLE DEE powering home from last on the turn to grab victory in the final tride.

Superbly ridden by BEN MELHAM, the 6yo mare was having her penultimate career start before her upcoming date with champion stallion Exceed and Excel.

A big congratulations to owner Dave Gillies who purchased Double Dee earlier in the year from her original owner Barb McDonald. Dave has raced many horses with the stable over the last few years and deserves every success which falls his way.

Double Dee was a $32,000 JWR purchase at the 2011 Inglis Classic Sale (pictured below). At the time, she was by an unfashionable stallion from a family lacking any real stars. Wind the clock forward 4 years and Double Dee is a very valuable broodmare prospect. She has won over $150,000 and is a half sister to a Cox Plate winner in Shamus Award.

"I certainly didn't got to the sale expecting to buy a Dubleo filly. But she was a really athletic type and I loved the fact that she was out of a Success Express mare who has been a fantastic broodmare sire. She has been a great mare for us and really deserved her metro win".

"She will have one final run before she retires. There are a couple of stakes races coming up over the next couple of weeks so we'll have a throw at the stumps. She only needs to run a place in a stakes race and she will be worth huge money".
