JWR WEEKEND PREVIEW: WHO IS JWR'S BEST 3YO?

May 15, 2015

The success of any season hinges largely on the performance of your 3 year old crop which make up a large portion of the stable. With 10 weeks left in the 2014/15 season, JWR is on track for its best ever year thanks largely to the performance of our 3 year olds.

Violent Snow and Rock Spur have been great finds for the stable. Both went within inches of winning Saturday grade races this month. They have been well supported by a host of city performed 3yo's in the form of Been Scene, Hipster Girl, Macquarie Magic, Swiss Rock and Letters from Paris.

So who is the best of our 3 year olds? Well, that could be answered in the next week. SANG CHOI BAO looks stakes class and lines up at Caulfield tomorrow. Lightly raced NZ filly RISQUE BUSINESS is loaded with talent and she lines up next Wednesday!

SANG CHO BAO MEANS BUSINESS

Sang Choi Bao was excellent first up and finds himself in a winnable race at Caulfield tomorrow. My only concern is the perceived lack of speed. He needs a genuine tempo and if they do happen to run along, he will be the one swooping late. It will take a good horse to beat him.

BATTLES END RESUMES AT CRANBOURNE

Five year old mare Battles End resumes from a break at Cranbourne tonight. She didn't come up last preparation and didn't enjoy the hard tracks. She gets a Slow 7 tonight and I am expecting a cheeky run at good odds with the in-form Katie Mallyon on board.

GIRLS DAY OUT ON SUNDAY

The girls will be out in force at Racing.com Park (the new Pakenham racecourse) on Sunday.

LACEY'S SECRET has been a slow maturing filly but is starting to put it all together now. We considered taking her to Adelaide for this weekend's SA Oaks but elected to stay home as she looks a good winning chance on Sunday over 2500m. Her mum won an Adelaide Cup so the distance shouldn't be an issue!

ANTIANARA is having her first start on Sunday for owner/breeder Susan Zeitz. Susan sent us two US Ranger fillies to train. The first has already saluted (Letters From Paris) and Antianara should be winning soon. Tomorrow's race may be a touch short for her but she looks a nice middle distance/staying filly in the making.

UNLAWFUL (pictured below) has been a big improver in the last 6 months. She was a very dour 3 year old filly but took a big step last preparation winning two races. She has improved yet again and should measure up to city grade races this time in. Tomorrow's race is well short of her ideal distance so look out for her later in the preparation.

STUNNING NEW ZEALAND COLT HEADED TO DENISTOUN PARK

JWR has purchased an exciting PENTIRE yearling colt from New Zealand which is a must see for all owners looking for a derby style of colt. Pentire has been a terrific sire with a host of Group 1 performers like Xcellent, King Mufhasa, Zarita, Rangirangdoo etc. This colt has a cracking pedigree on the dam side (see below). His dam was Group 1 placed in New Zealand (beating home Jimmy Choux) and this is her first foal.

We have secured the colt for NZ$75,000 which is terrific value. 10% shares will be sold at cost price. For more information, call Julian Hay on 0427 662 977 or email julian@jasonwarrenracing.com.au.
