PAYNE'S FIRST RIDE FOR STABLE

Feb 18, 2015

Apprentice Jessica Payne will have her first ride for the JWR stable at Sandown today.

She rides 4yo mare Longchamp Belle who was allotted 60.5kg. "She is only a small mare and Jess' 3kg claim will make a huge difference. Longchamp seems to have an affinity with the female riders. Katelyn Mallyon and Kayla Nisbet both rode her well and I think Jess will suit her" said Warren.

With a famous name like Payne, many people have naturally assumed that Jess was part of the famous Payne racing dynasty. But she is no relation to the famous family. "I’m still asked to his day if I’m part of the family. But it’s probably helped me to an extent with having the Payne name.” said Jess.

Jess was originally apprenticed to Benalla trainer Wayne Nichols before moving to Greg Eurell earlier this year.

She has ridden 18 winners this season and hopefully she will make it 19 today.

"Longchamp Belle should be at her peak today. She is third up and rock hard fit. There doesn't look to be much speed in the race so Jess should be able to get the lead and rate her out in front. She is a much better horse when leading" said Warren.
