HEFNER AND ROCK SPUR HEAD TO SANDOWN

Jan 14, 2015

JWR have two nice chances at Sandown today and the stable will be hoping for an early running double with HEFNER (pictured below) lining up in Race 1 and talented 3yo ROCK SPUR going around in Race 2.

HEFNER was solid at Geelong on debut and should appreciate the step up to 1400m. We were going to keep him in the bush but this race didn't come up overly strong for a city maiden. He will get a lovely run from barrier 1 and should be competitive in an open race.

ROCK SPUR was sensational on debut rocketing home at Yarra Valley to finish second but he faces a huge task today from the wide draw. If he manages to find some cover, he will be very hard to beat. If he gets hung out 3 or 4 wide, he will be vulnerable. There is a good wrap on Nigel Blackinston's first starter and there has been support for Ciaron Maher's horse so it should be an interesting race.

Good luck to connections.
