It will be an exciting week for the stable with two of our most promising youngsters staking their claims for higher honours in the Autumn.

Promising Beneteau gelding PURITAN resumes in a hot field tomorrow in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes at Caulfield. Jake Noonan did a great job on him last preparation so it wasn't easy giving him the bad news earlier in the week that we were replacing him with Nick Hall. Jake took the blow on the chin which was a credit to him. Nick is a big race rider and I think he style will really suit Puritan who will get back and rip home.

We threw this horse in the deep end at his second start and he didn't let us down running 4th in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes. This race is no easier and he comes up against race-fit horses which will have an edge on our fella. However, he flies fresh and he has that X-factor about him so I don't think you can rule him out. If he wins tomorrow, he is a genuine star. If he runs a nice race without winning, don't sack him as he will strip even fitter second up!

The other youngster to make her racing return is our blue-blooded Zabeel filly ZASORCERESS. She runs next Wednesday at Sandown after a scintillating trial on Monday.

We have two runners at the Valley tonight with HIPSTER GIRL (pictured below) in Race 1 and SPRITELY GIRL in Race 7.

All owners love having a plan with their horses but sometimes those plans are thrown our the window. When Hipster Girl ran at Pakenham last week, the plan was to give her an easy week and run in 3 weeks time.

When owner Dave Gillies received a call on Wednesday morning to say that Hipster Girl would be running on Friday night, he was more than a little surprised. When we explained to Dave that there were only seven mares in a moderate race, he will in full support.

Racing is all about gambling and we are taking a punt running her tonight. If she wins, her value will appreciate as a city winning mare. If she gets beaten, it will be back to drawing board! With Craig Williams on and the blinkers going on for the first time in 18 months, you just never know! Good luck Hipster.

SPRITELY GIRL has won 4 races from 14 starts and has more than paid her way over the last two years. The challenge for Spritely is taking her country form to town which she has struggled to do in the past. Tonights race certainly looks strong on paper so we are hopeful rather than confident of her winning. I certainly can't fault her. She has had 6 weeks between runs and has never looked better so fingers crossed she can cause an upset!
