JWR WEEKEND PREVIEW: PURITAN TO ROCK SYDNEY

Mar 18, 2016

The Sydney Autumn carnival kicks off tomorrow with the running of the richest 2yo race in the world, the Golden Slipper.

It promises to be a huge month of racing in Sydney which culminates with the running of The Championships in the first part of April. JWR have taken up a small but talented team headed by gun 3yo PURITAN who runs in tomorrow's Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill.

He has been joined this week by improving Zabeel filly ZASORCERESS who will run in next week's Vinery Stakes on route to the AJC Oaks.

DARBY MUNRO NOT BEYOND PURITAN

Puritan faces a big field of 17 in tomorrow's Darby Munro. It's never easy taking on the locals and going the reverse way for the first time so he's up against it.

But we are quietly confident that he can run a blinder. He has untapped ability, has thrived since arriving in Sydney and the blinkers go on. He caused an upset in the Manfred Stakes and he can do it again tomorrow! At 16-1, he is worth something each way!

LOOKING FOR THE OLD SPARK

His little sister won again yesterday and I hoping that her good form will rub off on DANGER CLOSE. He has been a grand horse for the stable and his owners but he has been struggling of late and needs to find his old spark. He still works like a good horse and I haven't given up on him yet!

DUBAWI STALLION TO RELISH THE WET TRACK

We have two horses heading down to Geelong tomorrow. SWIPEAWAY is getting better with racing and I am hoping he can run in the placings.. A recent addition to the stable is handsome stallion DUBAWI DREAM who steps out in the St Pats Day Cup. His first run for us was terrific and he should run a blinder tomorrow.

SISTER CLOSE WINS AGAIN

SISTER CLOSE has always shown good ability on the training track but she has taken a while to get her act together on the racetrack. She won her maiden impressively 2 weeks ago and showed it was no fluke, with another commanding performance yesterday with master rider Damien Oliver on board.

She has been a work in progress and a frustration at times but the wheel is turning. I played around with her gear and got her back on the big track at Pakenham which has made the world of difference.

She has got a long way to go before she emulates the deeds of Danger Close but she is going the right way!

HERE COME THE TOFFS!

First season stallion TOORAK TOFF had his first winner yesterday with an impressive performance by 2yo filly POP (pictured).

The Toorak Toffs were always going to get better with age and distance so it's no surprise to see POP win over 1400m in the second half of the 2yo season. I expect to see him siring more winners over the coming months!

If you would like a share in a Toffy filly, we have a beauty waiting for you at Denistoun Park (pictured below). She was purchased for $40k at the Magic Millions Sale and you will be popping the champagne when she wins this time next year!

BUY A SHARE IN SANG CHOI BAO'S SISTER

I love the SANG CHOI BAO family and had no hesitations buying hishalf sister at the recent Melbourne Premier Sale. She is by champion NZ sire PINS out of the very good racemare and producer FLOWERDRUM.

She is a dead ringer for her older brother. She has similar markings to Sang Choi Bao and comes with that big girth and great hindquarter which her brother has.

And yes, we will be continuing with the Chinese flavoured names so put your thinking cap on!
